Tattnall Baseball beats 7A #9 East Coweta 9-1

Tattnall Baseball had another big weekend of baseball, playing one game on Friday followed by a Diamond Day on Saturday.

Saturday had its ups and downs. In game one versus East Coweta, Tattnall avenged Friday night's loss by coming out swinging and scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. The Trojans scored on a walk by DJ Willis, a double by Charlie Morris, a single by Clay Rowland, and a single by Wilton Bumgardner in the first inning. Willis, Morris, Rowland, and Bumgardner all drove in runs in the frame.

Cooper McMullen toed the rubber for Tattnall. McMullen went seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out eight and walking only one.

Tattnall put three more on the board in the third inning on a home run by senior Russ Miller.

The Tattnall offense scattered seven hits in the game. Miller and Morris each collected multiple hits for Tattnall.

The second game was a letdown against Pacelli.  A poor pitching and defensive effort allowed Pacelli to jump out to a big lead. The game ended with the Vikings on top 15-6.

Friday night the Trojans had a heartbreaking loss to 7A #9 East Coweta 8-5.  Benjamin Stubbs got the start.  He lasted five innings, striking out ten and scattering six hits for three earned runs.  He was relieved by Gabe McGreggor, who had five strikeouts in the last two innings.  The Trojans took a 5-4 lead into the top of the seventh.  The inning started with McGreggor walking the leadoff and hitting the next batter.  He then struck out two hitters and gave up a single to load the bases.  The next pitch was hit out of the park to put ECHS up 8-5.  Tattnall battled but fell a little short.

On the weekend, Coach Hiller had this to say about his team's performance.  "Overall, it was a productive weekend.  We didn't come out of it with the record we wanted, but this will serve as a good learning experience for our players.  We were shown that when we play well, we can play with anyone, and when we don't do the little things well, we can be beaten.  We look forward to embracing the challenges that come with self-improvement over the next week before a tough Region 1A-Private schedule begins."

Tattnall Baseball travels to Trinity Sharpsburg on Wednesday for a single game and then begins Region play the following week against Deerfield.  The Trojans open at Deerfield on Tuesday, March 8 at 5:30 and then host Deerfield in a DH at Tattnall on Friday, March 11 at 4:00.
