Tattnall sweeps Savannah Country Day to open the GHSA State Playoffs
Benjamin Stubbs threw a shutout to lead Tattnall Square Academy past the Savannah Country Day Hornets 12-0 on Friday.
 
The Trojans opened up scoring in the first inning.  Cooper McMullen hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.
 
Tattnall notched five runs in the sixth inning.  The big bats in the inning were led by home runs by Russ Miller and Charlie Morris.
 
Stubbs was the winning pitcher for the Trojans. The lefthander allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out ten.
 
Roman Smith started the game for Savannah Country Day Hornets  Varsity. The pitcher went four innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out two, and walking one.  Smith Baid and Dalton Brown entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one-third of an inning respectively.
 
Tattnall hit two home runs on the day. Miller went yard in the sixth inning. Morris homered in the sixth inning to force the mercy rule.
 
The Trojans racked up 12 hits.  Miller, DJ Willis, Morris, and Stubbs each collected multiple hits for Tattnall.  Miller went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Trojans in hits.

Tattnall got on the board in the second inning.  Charlie Morris drove in one when Morris tripled.
 
The Trojans notched four runs in the third inning.  The offensive onslaught by Tattnall was led by Clay Rowland, Gabe McGreggor, and Riley McCallum, who each had RBIs in the inning.
 
Cooper McMullen got the win for Tattnall. The righty lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out five.  McGreggor and Benjamin Stubbs entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Stubbs recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Trojans.
 
Cade Garola was on the mound for Savannah Country Day. The pitcher lasted two and a third innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out one.  Barry  Kleinpeter threw four and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
Tattnall collected 11 hits on the day.  McGreggor, DJ Willis, and Stubbs each collected multiple hits for the Trojans.  Stubbs, Willis, and McGreggor each collected two hits to lead Tattnall.
 
 
 
UP NEXT:  Tattnall will travel to Mount Paran Christian on Wednesday, May 4 for a 5:00 DH.  The "if necessary" game is scheduled for Thursday 5/5 at 6:00.
