Bio

Coach Abernathy was born and raised in Macon, Ga. He attended Mercer University on a football scholarship, where he was a three-year letterman. While playing football, Coach Abernathy gained a B.A. in Political Science. After graduation, he went on to receive a M.A.T in Social Studies Education. Coach Abernathy also has an Ed.S in Instructional Technology from the University of West Georgia.

Coach Abernathy began his coaching career at TSA, where he coached the defensive line. That year, TSA went 12-1 and won a region championship. Coach Abernathy took a job to coach at Jones County High School. He spent two years as the defensive line coach and one year as the outside linebackers coach. During his three years at Jones County, the Greyhounds went 31-7. The Greyhounds won a Region Championship, had an Elite Eight appearance and made a Final Four appearance.
